Competition

Competitions will take place in venues carefully selected to provide the best possible conditions for athletes and spectators alike. Each site reflects the host country’s commitment to university sport, offering high-quality facilities in a setting designed for international events.

Competition format

The competition shall be organised in accordance with the most recent Technical and Competition Rules & Regulations (TCRR) of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF).

All Athletes must satisfy the following conditions:
-Be a national of the country they represent.
-Be at least 18 and no older than 25 years of age on the 31 December of 2026 (i.e., born between 1 January 2001 and 31 December 2008).
-Athletes participating in FISU sport events must represent the same country as in their respective International Federation events.

Athletes will be awarded for their individual lifts in the Snatch, Clean & Jerk, and Total events, with the latter representing the combined best results from both the Snatch and Clean & Jerk. Medals will be presented to the top 3 athletes in each event: Snatch, Clean & Jerk, and Total.

Venue

Education City Student Center Multi-Purpose Hall is a modern, fully equipped indoor venue located in Qatar’s Education City, a leading academic and sports hub. Designed to host a wide range of sporting and cultural events, the hall offers a professional competition environment with advanced facilities, spectator seating, and excellent accessibility.

The Education City Student Center is a vibrant, open space welcoming students and visitors alike. Often described as the “living room” of Education City, it is a central gathering place where people connect, relax, and enjoy a variety of dining and leisure options.

Technical equipment

The equipment to be used for the 2026 FISU World University Weightlifting Championship will include a full set of competition weightlifting platforms, barbells, and weight plates that are approved and homologated by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF). Additionally, all necessary technical equipment, such as scoring and timing systems, will be validated by the IWF to ensure compliance with international standards.

The venue will also be equipped with warm-up areas and training platforms that meet the required specifications for international competitions.
